Braskem receives certifications for Green PE production
Triunfo Units have achieved the best performance indicator since the beginning of operations

Braskem, the largest petrochemical company in the Americas and the world leader in the production of biopolymers, received, for another year, the ISCC PLUS and Bonsucro international certifications for its PE5 (polyethylene) and UNIB2 (basic petrochemicals) units, both belonging to the Triunfo Petrochemical Complex, in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The seals ensure the adoption of sustainability criteria in the production process of green plastic.
With the certifications, the petrochemical company meets the demands of customers of Green PE, produced from sugarcane ethanol, in line with the guidelines of European Bioplastics and other sustainable practices and requirements. The acknowledgment also reaffirms the commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment adopted by the company in its processes.
Launched five years ago, the I'm GreenT Green Plastic is the first polyethylene from renewable sources to be produced on an industrial scale in the world. The result of the combination of innovation, technology and sustainability, the resin's key differentiator is the capture of 2.15 kg of CO2 for every kilogram of material produced.
Simultaneously, the basic petrochemicals units UNIB 1 (BA) and 2 UNIB (RS) have maintained the Bonsucro Standard Certification. This parameter serves to the RED (Renewable Energy Directives) Directive, which sets the target for the European Union in which, in 2020, 20% of all energy consumed by the community should come from renewable sources, as seen in the company's protocols.
