Start of the Work on the Flexal Basic Health Unit

Maceió, May 3, 2024 - Construction of the Flexais Basic Health Unit (UBS, Unidade Básica de Saúde) has commenced. The approximately 390 m² structure will be situated on Ladeira Professor Benedito Silva, incorporating the 23 socioeconomic measures outlined in the Flexais Project. Funded by Braskem, the construction is set to be finished within the current year. This initiative stems from an Agreement signed in October 2022 among the Municipality of Maceió, the Federal Public Ministry, the Public Ministry of the State of Alagoas, the Federal Public Defender's Office, and Braskem and aims to implement a series of initiatives for urban integration and regional development.

The new UBS will employ the "Steel Frame" construction method, featuring galvanized steel structures with rust prevention treatment, thermoacoustic walls, and roofs, which will also expedite the construction process. Additionally, the facility will be equipped with ramps and a tactile floor to ensure accessibility. The executive project adheres to Ministry of Health guidelines and has been tailored to local requirements with input from experts from the Municipality of Maceió.

The teams involved in the construction of the UBS work at Flexais from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Public services, public living spaces and commerce

In addition to the new UBS, the Flexais Project also foresees other initiatives in the region. These include the restoration of Tobias Barreto, Faustino Silveira and Praça Nossa Senhora da Conceição streets, the construction of a daycare school, a Shopping Mall integrated with a fairground, the Fishermen's Support Center, and the installation of an access pier to Lagoa Mundaú. Construction for all of these projects is slated to begin in 2024.

Urban Integration and Development of Flexais Project

The Term of Agreement establishing the Urban Integration and Development of the Flexais Project was signed in response to studies indicating a state of socioeconomic isolation in the region, marked by vacant properties in the Pinheiro, Mutange, Bebedouro, Bom Parto, and Farol neighborhoods.

Alongside ongoing construction, various measures are being implemented, including urban cleaning, pest control, surveillance, a dedicated and free bus route for Flexais residents, school transportation, and psychological support services. The installation of security cameras, upgrading of public lighting with new lamps, and modernization of the network have also been completed. The Flexal Space, which accommodates municipal departments providing direct services to the community, has been structured as part of the project.
Furthermore, Braskem has been compensating residents and traders in the region as part of its commitment to the Flexais Project. The program provides for a total of 1,803 financial proposals and is supported by 99.2% of area residents. Until the first half of April, 1,777 proposals were presented, and 1,754 of which have been paid. In total, BRL 48.4 million have been paid by the Company.

Commitments with Maceió

The initiatives that encompass the Flexais Project are part of Braskem's 10 commitments with Maceió. The initiatives and programs, many of which are in an advanced stage of implementation or have already been concluded, address social, urban, and environmental aspects and form part of the five primary agreements signed between Braskem and the authorities in recent years. Most of these initiatives were formulated following consultations with public authorities, society, and affected communities.

To enhance comprehension and monitoring of these efforts, Braskem is consolidating them through the Commitments with Maceió(Compromissos com Maceió) platform. The details and respective implementation stages of the actions and programs can now be viewed and monitored at https://www.braskem.com/compromissosmaceio , a website that receives regular updates.
