Seismic analysis in the district of Pinheiro proceeds until next weekend

Maceió, March 12, 2019 - Expected to happen up to this Tuesday, 12, the data collection phase of the seismic study in the region of Pinheiro was extended for some days and should be concluded between Friday, 15 and Sunday, 17. This is to ensure the physical integrity of the approximately 30 professionals involved in the work and the pedestrians that walk around the place, due to the intense traffic of vehicles.

"We decided to slow down the work a little to ensure the safety of all, due to the movement of vehicles", explains the geophysicist Izaías Martins, from the North-American company Panamerican Geophysical, responsible for the studies. The updated activities schedule will be available in the next few days.

The seismic analysis is a requirement of the National Mining Agency (ANM) to Braskem and counts on the support of the Civil Defense and the City Guard. The objective is to supplement the studies to identify the cause of the cracks in the district of Pinheiro. After the data collection, a subsurface image of the studied area will be created - as a giant ultrasound - for identification of structures and geological layers.

To obtain the seismic data, specific equipment is used to generate waves and measure said waves in the surface. The seismograph, a measurement equipment, is formed by a set of sensors and electronic equipment spread along the study area, in a way to provide images that may have kilometric ranges.

According to Izaías Martins, the deadline to disclose the results may vary from 60 to 90 days after the conclusion of the data collection. "When we finish this stage of the work, there will be still the data processing and the interpretation phases. The work is quite meticulous and each phase can take from 30 to 45 days", explains the geophysicist.
