Braskem joins round-table discussion in the second day of workshop

Maceió, August 6, 2019 - Braskem attended this Thursday (5), the second day of the workshop "Causes, Effects and Solutions for the Geological Phenomena", and joined the debate "Solutions for housing and urban infrastructure". The event was promoted by the Federal and Regional Councils of Engineering and Agronomy - CONFEA and the CREA-AL.

The workshop aimed at gathering information for the Work Group (WG) of Seismic Tremors in Maceió/AL, informing the measures that are being implemented for the monitoring of the region of Pinheiro, Mutange and Bebedouro.

Ângelo Brandão, chemical engineer and production coordinator, represented Braskem and talked about the ongoing studies and monitoring, as, for example, the sonars in the salt extraction wells, expected to be concluded by December this year. The debate closed two days of activities that reunited experts and engineers from several Brazilian states to update and analyze the information concerning causes and effects of the situation in the district of Pinheiro and surroundings.

Economic context

The economic question was also addressed during the workshop. To provide the professionals with an overview of the situation in the state, Reynaldo Ferreira Júnior, an economist and professor at Universidade Federal de Alagoas (UFAL), presented the lecture "The benefits of mining for Alagoas", as a contribution of the Federation of the Industries of Alagoas (FIEA) to the discussion.

"The chemicals industry is in 4th place in terms of contribution to Alagoas GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and it had been developing, consolidating its contribution. Currently, there are several questions about its future due to the situation of its anchor-company, Braskem", reported professor Reynaldo Ferreira. The economist presented data on the number of plants, economic activities, job generation and market for the products of the Chemical and Plastic Productive Chain (CPQP).

"In face of the situation experienced, we are going through a restructuring in the chemical and plastic industry in Alagoas and the next steps of Braskem are greatly awaited for the other companies in the production chain", included Reynaldo Ferreira.
