Braskem informs on request to ANM

Maceió, August 21, 2019 - Braskem preventively paralyzed in May this year the salt extraction and operations in the chlorine-soda plant at Pontal da Barra in Maceió. The company reaffirms that it will not extract salt in the districts of Pinheiro, Mutange and Bebedouro and that it continues with the studies to completely understand the geological phenomena in the region.

The company has been operating in the state for more than 40 years and would like to continue contributing to the local development and to maintain the production chain of chemistry and plastic in Alagoas. The resumption of the operation will only be possible after the approval by the legal institutions and society. Braskem studies short and long term projects for alternatives that are technically viable to operate in a safe and sustainable manner. With this purpose, the company requested to the National Mining Agency (ANM) authorization to make a research to identify potential salt reserves in the non-urban perimeter of the state.

Braskem is committed to the state of Alagoas and reaffirms its responsible corporate operation and its concern for the safety of people.
