Braskem asks MPE and MPF to take actions against fake news

Maceió, February 21, 2019 - Braskem has sent a request to the State Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Alagoas (MPE-AL) and to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF-AL) asking for actions against the dissemination of fake news about the situation of the district of Pinheiro, in Maceió. The request warns about the fact that the so-called "fake news" contribute to the misinformation and rumors that generate panic in the community and population in general, for the catastrophe elements are used to cause fear in people.

"It is a concern the noticeable increase during the last weeks of the dissemination of false or distorted news circulating through social networks. This kind of misinformation, sometimes classified as 'fake news', is being disseminated by public and influent people in the community; giving legitimacy to mere opinion or even inexistent facts. This may harm the development of the works in progress", says the request sent to the MPE-AL and MPF.

Competent authorities are committed to identify the causes of the intensification of the occurrences in the buildings and streets of the district of Pinheiro. All the works are being conducted with accuracy and carefully aiming to find the causes, as the situation requires, to avoid divergent information and lack of security to the population. It is important that the population looks for information in official and accredited sources, for example, the Geological Survey of Brazil, the Civil Defense of Maceió and the State of Alagoas.
