Braskem and public bodies sign agreement to implement immediate measures in the district of Pinheiro

Maceió, April 4, 2019 - Braskem and four public bodies signed a technical cooperation agreement to implement a series of contingency measures to benefit the district of Pinheiro, in Maceió.

Besides Braskem the document was signed by representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Alagoas (MPE-AL), Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF-AL), Public Labor Prosecutor's Office in Alagoas (MPT-AL) and the Municipality of Maceió.

The document is the result of a series of meetings held since the beginning of the year between Braskem and these bodies, due to the identification by the company of emergency actions required to minimize the impacts in the rainy period and the need of sharing this information with the public bodies. The set of mitigating actions was presented by Braskem in a public hearing held in March 21, in the Brazilian Senate.

MITIGATING ACTIONS

As recommended by the Geological Survey of Brazil (CPRM) and identified by the technicians hired by Braskem, the working plan includes the following actions: donation of project and materials for the installation of a temporary surface drainage system aiming to minimize the impacts of the rainy period; monitoring of mass displacement by means of differential GPS; inspection of the core duct of the rainwater drainage system in the district by using a robot; recomposition of features and reinforcement of the terrain.

"All this work together with the competent public bodies demonstrates Braskem's permanent disposition to contribute as part of the solution to tranquilize the population", says Alexandre de Castro, Vinyl Business officer.

The mitigating actions will be inspected and monitored by MPE, MPF, MPT. Braskem volunteered to hire companies proven qualified and specialized for the execution of the working plan. The city of Maceió, through the Civil Defense, will support the execution of the activities by means of facilitating the access to the properties, streets, avenues and other spaces, and will also be responsible for the receipt, installation, handling, custody and maintenance of the donated equipment.
