Braskem Collects Over 6 Tons of Waste During Global WeCare 2025 Actions

Volunteer program strengthens the connection between people, communities, and the environment in a collective movement for a better future

Volunteerism continues to thrive at Braskem. The global petrochemical company, which develops sustainable solutions in chemistry and plastics to improve people's lives, carried out 14 volunteer actions in September across countries such as Brazil, the United States, Mexico, and the Netherlands. These activities were part of the WeCare program, which organizes volunteer efforts focused on circular economy and climate change. The actions resulted in the collection of over 6.5 tons of recyclable plastic waste, the planting of 340 native trees, and educational activities with public school students.
In total, 138 Braskem team members and 274 guests strengthened the program's engagement with local communities and partners, while promoting education and sustainable development.
"The WeCare editions, held since 2017, allow us to reinforce the importance of the circular economy and its benefits for the environment and society as a whole. These actions mobilize our team members and the community in pursuit of more sustainable development," said Roberta Manzini, Sustainable Development Manager at Braskem.

Global Engagement for the Circular Economy

In Brazil, the initiatives mobilized 69 Braskem team members and 259 guests, resulting in impactful outcomes. A total of 266 kilograms of waste were collected during cleanup actions, 340 native trees were planted, 565 kilograms of recyclable plastics were sent to a local cooperative, and 550 public school students were engaged through the Plastitroque activity.
WeCare 2025 was also a success in other countries. In Mexico, the Plastitrueque Villa Allende action mobilized 20 volunteers who supported the initiative of exchanging plastic waste for hygiene items, cleaning supplies, and food. The action resulted in the collection of 6 tons of plastic, benefiting around 800 community members.
In the United States, Braskem teams participated in cleanup efforts in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, La Porte, and Pasadena, removing 214 kilograms of waste from beaches and parks. In the Netherlands, volunteers collected seven large bags of waste, including plastics, glass, and metals, contributing to the preservation of one of the country's key natural heritage sites.
"WeCare promotes actions that encourage both proper disposal and conscious consumption, while also strengthening the recycling value chain and helping reduce inequalities caused by climate change," concluded Roberta.
