At Braskem each man or woman is valued for being who they are. We created our Diversity and Inclusion Program for us to become increasingly more inclusive, making equal opportunities for all team members.

The program has three pillars:

Diversity
Human diversity is a set of cultural, biological, social, and economic characteristics that make each individual a unique being. A diverse group, community or organization is one where a diversity of these characteristics exists.

Equity
Equity consists of adapting the existing rule to an actual situation in order to make it fairer. It is a process that begins by recognizing this uneven starting point and undertakes to correct and resolve the imbalance.

Inclusion
Inclusion is the appreciation and inclusion of populations that, for historical and social reasons, face barriers in society and in companies. It is the act of creating an inclusive work environment, training, visibility, respect and fair treatment for these populations.
 

Goals

In addition to actions developed across the board, that is, addressing the issue as a whole, we have initiatives based on five work fronts directed towards inclusion and empowering historically marginalized groups.

RACE AND ETHNICITY

Promote a work environment free from discrimination by race and ethnicity and promote the inclusion and empowerment of the black population.

GENDER EQUALITY

Promote gender equality through actions that foster women’s empowerment and equal opportunities.

SOCIOECONOMIC

By way of the Young Intern Program, Braskem seeks the inclusion of young people between 18 and 24 subject to social vulnerability, offering their first job opening and the development of education via and for work.

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Promote an inclusive work environment and equal opportunities for people with disabilities.

LGBTQIA+

Promote an inclusive work environment, free from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, which guarantees equal opportunities and rights.

In 2017, Diversity and Inclusion Workgroups were launched including three groups – Race and Ethnicity, Gender and LGBTQIA+ – comprised of 30 team members each, from all the regions in which Braskem operates in Brazil.

The goals of workgroups are to promote and spread the appreciation of diversity among the various areas of Braskem, aiding and proposing actions that support company policies in this segment within each activity front, developing engagement strategies for Team Members and monitoring diagnostics and indicators.

Our actions are guided by initiatives that we are signatories of and that offer guiding principles for work.

On the gender front

We are further guided by the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) of the UN Women and the Global Compact.

On the race and ethnicity front

We are guided by the Pro-Equity of Gender and Race Program of the Brazilian Federal Government.

On the LGBTQIA+ front

We are guided by the principles of the Corporate Forum and LGBTQIA+ Rights initiative, as the first major Brazilian company to become a signatory.
