The external monitorship was originally planned for three years with the possibility of an extension, but the way in which the company conducted internally its Compliance actions has demonstrated the commitment of both the company and its shareholders to implementing with priority something of such importance. "We are certain that acting ethically, with integrity and transparency, already has been incorporated into all our actions, systems and processes, and that everyone working here contributes to the continuous improvement of our compliance and governance practices," said Braskem CEO Roberto Simões. In March, Brazil's Federal Prosecution Office (MPF) also recognized the improvements achieved by Braskem's compliance program and concluded its external monitorship. The decision by the MPF was based on the certification of the independent monitors, who attested to Braskem's compliance with all obligations undertaken in the Leniency Agreement signed by it with the MPF in 2016 and the implementation of all additional initiatives recommended by these monitors. 

During the independent monitoring process, the Company established policies and procedures, trained 100% of employees on compliance topics, implemented anti-corruption controls, enhanced processes and tools, established mechanisms to ensure the adequacy and effectiveness of integrity practices, preventing the occurrence of new wrongdoings and giving utmost priority to ethics and transparency in conducting its business, all of which were evaluated in detail and tested by the monitors.

The work of the monitors included detailed assessments of the main elements of an effective compliance program: commitment of senior executives, assessment of risks, training and communication, disciplinary measures, whistleblowing and investigation mechanisms, management of third-party services, financial controls, relations with government agents, etc. "Braskem is continuously maintaining and improving its compliance system.
