Ponta Grossa to Get New Early Childhood Education Center
Built with funding from the Socio-Urban Action Plan (PAS), the CMEI will have the capacity to serve up to 600 children
Maceió, August 5, 2026 - The Ponta Grossa community and surrounding areas will gain a new Municipal Early Childhood Education Center (CMEI) for children from birth to age 5 years and 11 months. With 3,700 square meters (39,826 square feet) of built area, the facility is part of the Socio-Urban Action Plan (PAS) and will be delivered by Braskem fully equipped.
The new Ponta Grossa CMEI will be located next to the Edvaldo Alves Santa Rosa Sports Gymnasium ("Dida"). Construction is already approximately 20% complete and is expected to be finished in early 2027. The project follows guidelines established by Brazil's Ministry of Education and incorporates technical input from experts from the Municipality of Maceió, aligning the facility with local needs.
With capacity for up to 600 children, the center will include classrooms and reading rooms, courtyards, dining halls, a mini running track, a garden, a hair-cutting area, and spaces for cultural and recreational activities. The Ponta Grossa CMEI will also feature medical and dental care rooms, as well as a vaccination room, which are additional features designed to meet the needs of the local school community.
The center's design complies with accessibility standards, including access ramps, tactile paving, and adapted spaces for people with disabilities.
Initiatives for Maceió
PAS projects and initiatives are underway in several neighborhoods across Maceió. These initiatives include the construction or renovation of childcare centers, markets, public squares, and healthcare facilities, as well as measures in the cultural, social, economic, and urban development areas.

In Bom Parto, a 5,500 m² Multipurpose Community Center was built, and the former Ladeira José Cardoso da Silva Square-known as Ladeira do Trovão-was completely renovated.
In Bebedouro, a historically significant building with a total area of 775 m 2 was fully renovated to house the neighborhood's Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS). The facility was delivered to the Municipality fully equipped, with a dedicated area for services related to the Unified Registry (Cadastro Único, or CadÚnico) and services provided through the Flexal Center.
