New Link Road connects regions and improves traffic flow in Maceió's upper neighborhoods

The project delivered by Braskem to the municipality includes a dual-carriageway urban corridor, bridges, bike lanes, accessible sidewalks, and modern lighting

Maceió, August 12, 2026 - The New Link Road between Durval de Góes Monteiro Avenue and Menino Marcelo Avenue has begun to make a difference in the daily routine of those traveling through the upper part of Maceió. With a total length of 2.3 kilometers, the new road corridor provides a faster travel alternative for residents of areas such as Benedito Bentes, Antares, and Tabuleiro do Martins traveling toward Fernandes Lima Avenue and the city's Commercial Center.

The new road was built by specialized companies contracted by Braskem and is part of a package of projects aimed at improving urban mobility in Maceió, under the Socio-Environmental Agreement. The New Link Road was handed over to the Municipality and named Linha Verde by the City Government. The corridor is considered by the municipality to be the largest mobility project carried out in the upper part of the capital in recent years and one of the most significant investments in urban mobility in the city's history.

Local merchant Henrique da Silva is among the users of the new road and has already noticed its benefits. "Since the road was completed, I have been able to significantly shorten my commute and avoid traffic jams. During peak hours, the time saved on my commute can reach almost 30 minutes. I have family members who live near Menino Marcelo Avenue and friends in Antares who work on Fernandes Lima Avenue, and they have also started using this route," he says.

Linha Verde is located between the intersection of Galba Novaes de Castro Street and Durval de Góes Monteiro Avenue, and Audálio Lopes da Silva Street and Menino Marcelo Avenue. The construction of the road involved more than 320 professionals across different work fronts.

Modern and Safe

The expressway has two 7-meter-wide lanes in each direction, a central median, a roundabout, bike lanes, and accessible sidewalks. The project also includes modern street lighting and urban furniture, such as bus stops.

Two bridges were built along the route. The first is 128 meters long and has a central span height of 24 meters. The second is 113 meters long and 21 meters high. Both bridges feature 2.5-meter-wide bike lanes, 2-meter-wide sidewalks on both sides, as well as protective structures such as rigid concrete barriers, guardrails, and safety screens.

Mobility Package

The package of projects aimed at improving urban mobility in Maceió includes the construction, expansion, or rehabilitation of 33.4 kilometers of roads; the implementation of nearly 37 kilometers of accessible sidewalks and bike lanes; the upgrading of public walkways and parking areas; new lighting and electrical infrastructure; stormwater drainage; and an intelligent traffic light system already in operation.

The implementation of these measures is part of the Socio-Environmental Agreement signed in December 2020 by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and Braskem, with participation from the State Public Ministry (MPE) and support from the Municipality of Maceió. The initiatives are moving forward with an initial budget of BRL 360 million, adjusted annually and funded by Braskem. The projects are planned by the municipality and overseen by public authorities.
