First Section of the New Connector Road Completed
Expressway linking Durval de Góes Monteiro and Menino Marcelo avenues to be delivered this year
Maceió, April 30, 2026 - The first section of the New Connector Road, which will link Durval de Góes Monteiro and Menino Marcelo avenues, has now been completed. The completed stage represents 800 meters of the total 2.3 kilometers planned for the project. Taking into account the remaining stages, 76% of the roadway is already finished. Funded by Braskem, the project is part of a broader package of measures aimed at improving urban mobility in Maceió and will be officially delivered to the Municipality later this year.
Designed as a key traffic corridor, the New Connector Road is being built between the intersection of Galba Novaes de Castro in Durval and Rua Audálio Lopes da Silva, in Menino Marcelo. The new route will provide an alternative for drivers traveling from neighborhoods such as Benedito Bentes, Antares, and Tabuleiro do Martins toward Avenida Fernandes Lima and the city's commercial downtown area.
The new expressway will feature two 7-meter-wide lanes in each direction, separated by a central median. The project also includes a roundabout and two bridges: the first measuring 128 meters in length and 24 meters in height, and the second measuring 113 meters in length and 21 meters in height. Both are equipped with concrete barriers, guardrails, and protective fencing. Along its entire length, the New Connector Road will include bike lanes and accessible sidewalks, modern public lighting, and street furniture such as bus stops.
Mobility
The implementation of urban mobility improvements is part of the Socio-Environmental Agreement signed in December 2020 between the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) and Braskem, with the participation of the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE) and the formal adherence of the Municipality of Maceió. These initiatives continue under an initial budget of BRL 360 million, adjusted annually and fully funded by Braskem. The interventions are planned by the Municipality and overseen by public authorities.
The projects include the construction, expansion, or rehabilitation of 33.4 kilometers of roadways; nearly 37 kilometers of accessible sidewalks and bike lanes; the upgrading of public walkways and parking areas; new public lighting and electrical infrastructure; stormwater drainage systems; and a smart traffic signal system already in operation.
