Construction of the new CRAS begins in Bebedouro

  • The building where the Social Assistance Reference Center will operate will be equipped and handed over to the Municipality
  • The renovated building will also house the Flexal Space

Maceió, April 23, 2025 - Construction of the new Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) in the Bebedouro neighborhood has begun. A property located at the corner of Ladeira Professor Benedito Silva and Rua Marquês de Abrantes is currently being renovated to house the new facilities. It is expected to be handed over to the Municipality in the early second half of the year. The initiative is part of the Socio-Urban Action Plan (PAS) and is part of the social policies and vulnerability reduction axis.

The CRAS offers ongoing basic social protection services to families in situations of vulnerability and social risk. The Bebedouro unit will be set up in a building recognized by the Municipality as having historical value and is currently undergoing extensive restoration work. The services, approved by the city of Maceió and supervised by Braskem's technical team, which includes architects specialized in cultural heritage, began with a diagnostic assessment to identify changes and alterations made over time.

Following this assessment, restoration efforts will include removing layers of paint, treating and restoring the decorative window frames and wall elements, as well as painting, repairing the roof, and updating the plumbing system. Also planned are the installation of a new electrical network and the restoration of the architectural elements of the façade.

Spanning a total area of 775 m², the facility will be fully adapted and equipped with individual and family service rooms, a reception area, a playroom, a pantry, a covered patio, and multipurpose rooms for training sessions and community events. The structure will also feature accessible restrooms, a coordination office, a storage room, and a service area. Additionally, the new CRAS will have an exclusive space for Single Registry (CadÚnico) services.

The unit will additionally house the new Flexal Space, one of the 23 socioeconomic initiatives outlined in the Flexal Agreement. This new space will offer 186 m² of flexible support infrastructure for the community and will be managed by the Municipality.

Other PAS projects

In addition to Bebedouro's CRAS, two new PAS projects are in the initial phase. These are: the construction of a Municipal Early Childhood Education Center (CMEI), in the Cidade Universitária neighborhood, with capacity to serve 600 children aged 0 to 5 years, and the installation of the Psychosocial Care Center AD III (CAPS AD III), which will provide specialized care in mental health and chemical dependency, with capacity to serve up to 45 patients per day.

About PAS

Measures to repair, mitigate, or compensate for the impacts of displacement in the neighborhoods of Pinheiro, Mutange, Bebedouro, Bom Parto, and Farol are established under the Socio-Environmental Agreement, signed in December 2020 by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) and Braskem, with the participation of the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE) and the support of the Municipality of Maceió.

The Socio-Urban Action Plan includes more than 40 initiatives, ranging from the construction or renovation of daycare centers, markets, public squares, and health units to broader actions in the cultural, social, economic, and urban development fields. The company executes some of the actions, while Maceió's local government executes others. The budget, as funded by Braskem, is BRL 198 million, updated annually.

The plan is organized into four key areas: social policies and reduction of vulnerabilities; economic activity, work and income; urban and environmental qualification; and preservation of culture and memory.
