Braskem Delivers New Community and Recreation Spaces in Bom Parto
Community gains a new multipurpose venue for sports, events, and activities for all ages;
Thunder Hill Square undergoes a complete revitalization.
Maceió, June 20, 2026 - The Bom Parto community now has two new spaces designed for social interaction, recreation, and community events, offering accessible facilities for people of all ages. The projects were carried out by contractors hired by Braskem based on plans developed with active community participation and were officially handed over to the municipality on Friday, June 19. The initiatives are part of the Socio-Urban Actions Plan (PAS).
The new Multipurpose Space was built on a 5,500-square-meter site on Rua do Campo and features a soccer field with bleachers, locker rooms, and accessible restrooms, as well as a walking and running track, outdoor fitness equipment, a playground, tables and benches, and a pavilion designed to host community events. Additional improvements included upgraded lighting, new landscaping and green areas, modernization of the drainage system, and the installation of waste bins.
On José Cardoso da Silva Hill, known locally as Thunder Hill (Ladeira do Trovão), the existing square was completely renovated. The project included new landscaping, tables and benches, and the restoration of the altar honoring the neighborhood's patron saint, Our Lady of Bom Parto (Nossa Senhora do Bom Parto). A new 1.6-meter-tall statue was sculpted in terrazzo by artisan Genézio Gomes from Recife. In addition, a historic crucifix was restored and returned to the square.
Both spaces feature accessible sidewalks with tactile paving and access ramps to accommodate people with disabilities and reduced mobility.
Community Participation
Rita de Cássia Silva dos Santos has lived in Bom Parto for 51 years and said she had never seen anything like this in the community. " I was born and raised here, and I have never experienced a moment like this. This soccer field is where I raised my daughters and grandchildren. Now, with so many improvements arriving, I feel renewed hope that I can continue working here and watch the neighborhood grow ."
Bom Parto parish priest Father Adriano Vieira also celebrated the completion of the projects alongside the community. " This is a unique moment for our parish, which has endured many challenges but is also blessed by the grace of a welcoming mother, " he commented.
Singer Veronica Maria Granja, who has lived across from the square on Thunder Hill for more than 50 years, said the community feels as though it is starting anew. " We went through a period of isolation, but now we will be able to come together here again, " she said.
Bom Parto community leader Fernando Lima highlighted that the projects strengthen residents' sense of belonging and inclusion. " This transformation goes beyond the physical improvements. The result of ongoing dialogue among the community, local institutions, and Braskem, these spaces create more opportunities for social interaction, sports, and recreation while strengthening self-esteem and community ties, " he noted.
PAS Projects in Maceió
Raineldes Melo, Braskem's Social Initiatives Manager, emphasized that the projects delivered through PAS are the result of ongoing dialogue with residents of the communities served, who actively contribute to the development of each project. " Here in Bom Parto, the project generated great expectations among residents, who actively participated in defining the improvements, including the selection of features for spaces that had long been used by the community despite lacking any infrastructure, " she said.
In addition to the projects in Bom Parto, Braskem has already delivered a new Municipal Early Childhood Education Center (CMEI) with capacity for up to 600 children from birth to five years and eleven months of age, as well as a new Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment (CAPS AD III) designed to serve up to 45 patients per day in Cidade Universitária. The neighborhood will also benefit from additional initiatives, including the construction of a Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS).
In Bebedouro, a 775-square-meter historic building was renovated, equipped, and delivered to the municipality to house the neighborhood's CRAS facility. In Ponta Grossa, construction of a new CMEI is currently underway. Additional projects are in the planning stage.
PAS encompasses initiatives that include the construction and renovation of daycare centers, public markets, squares, and healthcare facilities, as well as cultural, social, economic, and urban development measures. Some of the initiatives are implemented directly by Braskem, while others are carried out by the Municipality of Maceió. The program's budget, fully funded by the Company, totals BRL 198 million and is updated annually. The Socio-Urban Actions Plan (PAS) is provided for under the Socio-Environmental Agreement entered into by Brazil's Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) and Braskem, with the participation of the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE) and the adherence of the Municipality of Maceió.
