Wilson's Gen Green collection illustrates the brand's commitment to building a better world through sport
Wilson, the global sporting goods manufacturer, is the latest brand to announce that it has developed a product range using Braskem's I'm greenTM EVA.
As a global material supplier, Braskem (B3: BRKM3, BRKM5, and BRKM6; NYSE: BAK; LATIBEX: XBRK) is committed to offering a wide range of innovative sustainable solutions to its clients. Braskem's unique portfolio is expanding and accelerating the shift from fossil to renewable resources.
Renato Yoshino, Agro, Infrastructure and Industries Business Director at Braskem, said: "We are proud to contribute to Wilson's sustainability ambitions. I would like to congratulate Wilson and Braskem teams for this great achievement and looking forward for following ones already in our common pipeline of projects."
One sector that is showing a particularly strong commitment to this transition is sports. I'm greenTM EVA will now be found in Wilson's Gen GreenTM collection of balls, including products across basketball, football, soccer and volleyball. Whether it's on the court, the field, or at the beach, each player can now hit their green goals.
Giancarlos Delevati, I'm greenTM Global Account Manager & Business Development at Braskem, said: "We are proud to share this step of the sustainability journey with Wilson® and the wider sports equipment industry. We are committed to creating a better future for the planet by delivering high-performance and innovative materials that match the green aspirations of Wilson's passionate customers."
EVA is a thermoplastic that can be used in many applications such as footwear, mats, and foams. Braskem's I'm greenTM EVA, made from sugarcane, is a biobased and recyclable alternative to fossil-based EVA. Braskem has therefore developed a drop-in solution: a kind of "bio-similar" copy of the petrochemical counterpart.
I'm greenTM EVA has the potential to significantly reduce a product's carbon footprint. The I'm greenTM EVA process generates two times fewer CO2 emissions than conventional EVA foam. Braskem works with its suppliers and independent certifiers to ensure the reduced environmental footprint can be passed on to its clients.
A lot of sportswear and sports equipment are manufactured using cutting-edge polymers - that means global sports brands are often at the forefront in tackling issues such as recycling and sustainable sourcing. Wilson® stands out from the pack in offering a growing range of innovative and preferred products to all its customers.
Braskem's Biopolymers Business EMEA & Advocacy and Sustainability EU Director, Marco Jansen, said: "Could sport's involvement in the green transition energize the fight against climate change? We certainly think so. By working together, companies like Wilson and Braskem can raise awareness about the impact of materials on the world and tell a positive story for fans and players."
Braskem's ambition is to be among the global leaders in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction and a key player in carbon capture through the production of materials with renewable, biobased raw materials. By 2030, we seek to reduce scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 15%; and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To learn more, visit https://www.braskem.com/usa/macroobjectives .
