Doesn't the monoculture and expansion of sugarcane farms damage biodiversity? Not necessarily! 

Deforesting natural vegetation to plant sugarcane defeats the whole purpose of a sector that is engaged in combating climate change. Over the past 20 years, more than 95% of sugarcane expansion was on degraded pastureland, helping recover land that was once depleted.

There are a number of methods that enhance the sustainability of production, such as the use of crop rotation to ensure a natural fertilization of the soil, biological pest control programs, green corridors for wildlife, and the practices we monitor and foster with our Responsible Ethanol Sourcing Program.
