Braskem's green plastic wins an environmental award
Braskem was one of the winners of the Environmental Responsibility Award at the Global Plastics Environmental Conference (GPEC) 2009, held by SPE (Society of Plastics Engineers). This recognition was conferred Braskem for its "Plastic Materials Made from Renewable Resources" project, for the innovative nature of the process for producing polyethylene from sugar cane ethanol and the industrial unit it is building at Triunfo for that purpose.
"This award is yet another recognition Braskem earns for its green polyethylene project. It reinforces the importance of this innovation the company developed and its countless benefits for the environment, and consequently, people," says Antônio Morschbacker, responsible for Braskem's green polyethylene project.
Through these awards, SPE’s Environmental Plastics Division recognizes those corporations and other institutions that have demonstrated leadership and environmental excellence. Several requirements are needed to compete for the award, including contribute towards environmental improvement; demonstrate creativity and originality; and promote leadership in environmental areas, among other demands.
The conference will be held February 25-27, in Orlando (Florida), United States, at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort - Walt Disney World®. The awards will be given on February 26.
