Braskem was selected for the São Paulo Stock Exchange’s new Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) portfolio, which gathers companies with high levels of commitment with sustainability and social responsibility. The new portfolio will take effect starting December 1 and will remain in force until November 30, 2009.

Member of the ISE since the index’s creation, for the fourth consecutive time Braskem was ranked among the 51 companies that answered the questionnaire sent to 137 companies that issue the 150 most liquid shares on Bovespa.

"We received news of the confirmation of Braskem’s permanence in Bovespa’s ISE with great satisfaction. This result is further evidence of Braskem’s commitment to sustainable development and it is recognition of the excellence of our teams and our processes related to this theme," says Luiz Henrique Valverde, director of Investor Relations. "Furthermore, with our presence in the ISE, we consolidate our dialogue with the so-called Socially Responsible Investors who focus on investing in companies with differentiated practices of sustainability.

According to Bovespa, 38 assets from 30 companies are part of the portfolio, totaling R$ 384.7 billion in market value and corresponding to 31.8% of total capitalization of the 394 companies with shares traded on the São Paulo Exchange.
