Acknowledging the best in Bahia's theater
Next May 5, the Bahia cultural scene will learn the winners of the XV edition of the Braskem Theater Award
The best in Bahia’s theater in 2007 will be known during the XV Braskem Theater Award. The award ceremony will be held on May 5, at 8pm, in the main hall of Castro Alves Theater. The award was created with the objective of valorizing, acknowledging and awarding Bahian theater production, making room for the emergence of new talents.
The XV Braskem Theater Award will acknowledge the highlights of 2007 in ten categories: best original script, direction, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, revelation, special category, best children’s play, best adult play. There are a total of 41 adult plays and 14 children’s productions in the running.
This year, the ceremony will be directed by actor and director Filinto Coelho, and conducted by actress Nadja Turenko. With the theme "The Woman on Stage", Filinto’s proposal is to work the beauty and emotion and he will portray the vital cycle - from youth to maturity - a trajectory of all the women on the stage. "The event seeks to valorize the award winners, those truly responsible for the event. The woman is an involving theme and everyone should expect surprises," underscores Nadja.
Tribute
The award will also pay tribute to Mario Gadelha, from the state of Pará. Born February 3, 1934, he began to do theater in Bahia in 1956 with the Amateur Theater group. That same year, he traveled to Rio de Janeiro, representing Bahia, with the play "A Grande Estiagem" (The Great Drought), directed by Clênio Vanderlei, to participate in the Amateur Theater Festival. There, he replaced an actor in the first staging of "Auto da Compadecida", also directed by Clênio Vanderlei, from Pernambuco. He was part of two other stagings of this same play: one with Martim Gonçalves (1958) and the other with the director Maurice Vanot (1970), where he interpreted Chicó.
In 1969, Gadelha acted in the play that inaugurated Vila Velha Theater, "Eles não usam Black-tie" (They Don’t Wear Black Tie), by Gianfrancesco Guarnieri. "Theater is the great school of life. It was means of support. The theater gave me the tools and the enormous hope for social change,’ he said.
Gadelha participated in more than 60 plays over his 52-year career. His latest work was in 2007, in the play "Terceiro Sinal", directed by Deolindo Checucci, with colleagues like Haidyl Linhares and Wilson Mello in the cast.
