Braskem will sponsor the Porto Alegre Theater Award for the second consecutive year. It is one of the biggest Brazilian theater festivals and will be held September 10-30 in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, together with the 2nd Braskem Theater Award. The award, which has the objective of valuing productions from Rio Grande do Sul, was launched yesterday in Porto Alegre, at the Solar Paraíso, with the presence of authorities like the mayor of Porto Alegre, José Fogaça, artists, festival supporters and the press. "It is with great satisfaction that Braskem participates in one of the most important culture festivals in the city, encouraging and recognizing the work of actors and actresses from the state," underscored João Ruy Dornelles Freire, responsible for Institutional Relations at Braskem in Rio Grande do Sul.

Fifteen plays were selected to participate in the contest. A jury comprised of journalists will indicate the winners in the following categories: Best Play, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director. The Braskem Theater Award will also award the Best Play elected by the public, which can deposit their votes in boxes located at the exits of the theaters. As in the first edition, the trophy was created by renowned plastic artist Arminda Lopes.
 
All winners will receive cash awards. The Best Play will win R$ 20 thousand, and the Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress winners will take R$ 3 thousand. The best play will travel to Bahia for a presentation in Salvador as part of the festivities traditionally promoted by Braskem to close the Braskem Theater Award.
 
Last year"s winner of the Braskem Theater Award, Mid-Summer Night"s Dream, will put on a presentation at the 2007 Porto Alegre Theater Award.

The 2nd Braskem Theater Award will be held on September 24 at 9PM in a ceremony at Theatro São Pedro.
