Braskem's Neo PVC Program expands partnerships and reaches Santa Catarina

The state is the second largest consumer of PVC in the country and the Joinville region is the most important resin transformation center
Braskem and SOCIESC - Santa Catarina Education Society, one of the most acclaimed technical and higher education schools of Plastic Engineering in Brazil, sign an agreement this Wednesday (8/23) to disseminate and promote the technological development of PVC, one of the most versatile thermoplastics. The signing will occur during the Santa Catarina Plastic Material Industry Union (SIMPESC) dinner at the Sociedade Lírica, Rua Max Colin, 1483, in Joinville/SC.

The objective of the partnership is to develop and expand the training of the entity’s faculty members and students concerning the composition, transformation and application of the thermoplastic and its innovation possibilities.

"With this partnership, we are expanding PVCs development and knowledge network and contributing with SOCIESC towards the formation of ever more specialized professionals in the subject to attend to the region’s industry," explains Luciano Nunes, responsible for the program’s management at Braskem.

The executive highlights the partnership’s importance for Braskem, since the state is the country’s second largest consumer of PVC, representing 15% of the transformed resins demand. "This state concentrates the exponents of PVC transformation in the country that mainly attend to the civil construction market, thus the importance of structuring a center of excellence in PVC technology in the region," he underscores.

According to Palova Santos Balzer, coordinator for the entity’s plastics engineering course, this is the first agreement SOCIESC has made with a petrochemical industry and it will further motivate building capacity for PVC teaching and research in the region. "We are encouraged by the opportunities this agreement will provide us, including the internships for our students and the use of Braskems PVC Technology and Innovation Center, located in São Paulo," he affirms.
The NEO PVC - Nucleus for Oriented Studies on PVC - program was created with the objective of developing studies oriented towards the expansion of PVC use and the creation of new applications for the plastic. The program’s first partnership was formalized last May when Braskem signed an agreement with the Materials Engineering Department at the Federal University of São Carlos - UFSCar. The foundations for carrying out research in nanotechnology, blends and PVC processing were established through it.
